Legion Lacquer Valentine's Day Trio

I am soooooo late getting this posted but between moving and school, I seriously haven't even had time to file my nails!  By they way, they look pretty rough right now.  I received this Valentine's Day Trio by Legion Lacquer about a week or so before V-Day and decided to share it anyway because I think the collection can be worn BEYOND the holiday.  So here they are:

The first one I swatched (and my favorite) is Eros.  Eros has holographic glitter hearts and purple glitters in a pink jelly base.  There's even some silver dust thrown in for extra sparkle.  The formula is pretty easy to work with and I let the bottle sit upside down for about 5 minutes so I was easily able to get the heart glitters out easily.

My blog wouldn't be complete without some macro action:

Eros
Next up is "He Loves Me...Not" and this one is a little more chunky with stars and large and small circular glitters in purple, pink and white.  This one is in a sheer pink jelly base with more micro shimmers for even more sparkle.  Again pretty easy to work with.

He Loves Me...Not
BOOM...macro.

He Loves Me...Not
Finally we have "Jar of Crushed Hearts" which is a pink/purple micro glitter polish.  Some of the glitters seem to be either blue or purple but it's also possible they are red and blue and LOOK purple in the pink base.  Either way, it's gorgeous!  The formula is a bit thick due to all the glitter but I added some polish thinner and it was fine.

Look at this close up!

And there you have it...my super late Valentine's Day post.  I checked the Legion Lacquer site HERE and you can't even get them anymore, however they DO have the St. Patty's Day collection available which I am not getting because I'm on a strict 3-month no buy.  If you do buy them, let me know what you think.

Pink and White Fishnet Accent

Since the Spring semester of school has started I just don't have time to do my nails very often and when I do, I try to keep the designs simple.  In many cases I'm sitting down to do my nails at 9pm and some of you know that my bedtime is right around 8:30!  But I wanted to do something bright and fun to get my mind off the gray cold weather!

For this design I used two OPI polishes I just picked up: Alpine Snow and Hey Baby.  I used tape to create the "fishnet" design and added some clear, holographic glitters in the cross sections.  Sadly, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the glitter to show up on camera but it looked really pretty in person.  It was just enough subtle sparkle to keep it classy.

My goal is to post at least three times a week during this semester but don't hate me if I can't.  I hope you enjoyed this design and I'm hoping to get a "what's going on in my life" post here pretty soon to explain my absences and lack of regular Instagram posts.  Talk to you soon!

NAIL FAIL: GITD Gradient with Spring Flowers

I've been quite uninspired lately and I'm just going to chalk it up to the holidays and being sick.  So I asked in my last blog post for some ideas for nail art designs.  Thank you to +mara page  for the idea to do a gradient.  I LOVE to do them and if I would've left the flowers off, I think I would've loved this one too.

So why is this a nail fail?  Well, look at the glow in the dark shot....my "flowers" are floating upside down.

For the design I used Polish Me To Go polishes in "Oh Cool Blue" and "Yell Oh Mint" to create the gradient and then topped that with China Glaze in "Fairy Dust".  For the flowers I used China Glaze "Flip Flop Fantasy" and "I'm With The Lifeguard" (the flower stems) and Julep "Evelyn".   Everything got a good top coat of Essie Good To Go.

I think I wanted something flowery because it's been in the single digits here lately and, while I love the cold weather, I'm ready for Spring.

Happy Sunday!

Simple Accent: Taped Glitter Stripes

This purple.  JUST LOOK AT IT!  I'm a sucker for a great purple polish and since I've had nail artist block for the last couple of weeks, I decided to grab one of my favorites to create a simple design with a really simple accent.  I used Peita's Polish in Wendy on all my nails.  Wendy is a plummy purple with pink shimmer in it.  I used two coats then topped it with Essie Good To Go.  Once that was COMPLETELY dry, I used striping tape to tape off my accent in the design I wanted.  I used one coat of Peita's Polish Mermaid Tetris and immediately peeled off the tape.  I had to use a small brush to move glitter in it's proper place and then topped it once again with Essie Good To Go.

That's IT!  Easy peasy.  I'm really looking forward to finding my nail art mojo again.  Any ideas?  I'll give credit for your idea if I pick it!

New Year, New Nubs!

Well another year has gone and past.  As I reflect on this past year I realize that it really was a tough year for me and my family.  We've had the death of two very close family members right around the holidays, we've struggled with finding a home to buy (an issue that continues because I'm VERY picky), and we've struggled to find happiness in the place we began to call home two years ago.  But we managed to get through it and already this year is bringing signs of hope and happiness.  I've got some things cooking in my life that are HUGE and I hope to share details in the near future.

But this blog is about nails and as I sit here, I can't believe that it's been six months since I began doing nail art.  I think I've come really far and am excited to see what the next six months brings.  To start off the new year fresh (and since I broke my middle finger nail to the bed) I decided to file my nails back to nubs and begin growing them out again.  Since my OPI Nail Envy really helps my nails grow and stay strong, I thought I might have a better shot of keeping that middle finger nail from splitting.  If you've followed my blog for any amount of time, you know that I have a severe ridge in that nail that splits any time it achieves the slightest bit of length.  For the past month or so, I've been using acrylic to keep it from splitting but I want to try growing my nail without any acrylic support.  So here they are in all their nubby glory.

Stay tuned for my progress and please share any ideas you have for me to help with my ridiculously weak nails.  I hope that you all have a happy and healthy New Year and God Bless!

Christmas Nativity Nails

Better late than never, I guess.  I realize that this post is a little late but I've been out of commission since basically LAST Saturday.  I've had some form of stomach flu and have just felt awful!  Anyway I wanted to share my Christmas nails with you before the new year rolled in!

I have been itching to do a Christmas Nativity design nail art since the beginning of December.  But, with being sick and so busy with work and school, I just haven't had the time.  Sometimes I like to turn to the internet to get some inspiration, especially Pinterest.  I found a similar design to this with no credit and decided to use that as my inspiration.  Since I can't credit the original owner, I'm not going to post the inspiration photo BUT if this resembles your design (I will verify this by comparing it to my inspiration photo), let me know and I'll give credit!  I did try to change it a bit to make it my own by adding the silhouetted trees and sand dunes.

For this design I started with a base of piCture pOlish in Cosmos and then used acrylic paint for the rest.  I really wanted to do a stained glass style nativity like I saw some other artists do but I'm just not there yet.  I stress YET!

I really hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I'm looking forward to creating new Winter themed designs in the coming weeks.  Is it bad that I'm tired of doing Christmas nail art?

Merry (belated) Christmas everyone!

Christmas Time Is Here Tag

I saw this on Ten Little Nubs blog and wanted to join in the fun.  Christmas is my favorite time of the year!!!

What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

I think my favorite thing about Christmas is the excitement that I see on my kids faces. They literally have sugar plums dancing around in their heads.  As soon as school lets out and we're all home for Christmas break, we start our family traditions including making an obscene amount of Christmas cookies, shopping for last minute gifts, and making craft decorations and ornaments with the kids.   Christmas morning is so special because when they wake up, we gather around the tree and thank Jesus for this special day.  We always remember that it is because of Him that we have what we have.

When you were a kid, what did you leave for Santa on Christmas Eve?

I was pretty boring because I left out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots and water for the reindeer.   Nothing fancy, although one year my Dad left out a Budweiser and chips and salsa and told me that it was time Santa got what he REALLY wanted.  I was mortified...

Do you and/or your family have any Christmas traditions?

We have MANY but one of my favorites is baking Christmas cookies for friends and family.  I have three staple recipes I always make:  Nutmeg Logs, Cookie Press sugar cookies, and Peanut Blossoms.  Another tradition is that we always open a small present on Christmas Eve.  Usually pajamas or something Christmasy like socks or jewelry.  Some people put out most of the presents as soon as their wrapped and then Santa leaves his, but we don't put a single present under the tree until Christmas Eve.  I love how surprised my kids get when they get up Christmas morning, even the older "kids".

When decorating, do you go all out or just do a small amount of decorating?
I like to go all out but we're in a small rental home for now until we buy our own home so much of my holiday decor is in storage.  It's not worth pulling everything out because there's just no room.   I like to decorate every room in the house, bathrooms included and each bedroom has a tree.  I just had a new custom wreath made for me by a very talented friend and it is the centerpiece of my living room because it's too big for my current front door.  It's soooo pretty!

What is your favorite Christmas food?

My favorite Christmas food...that's a tough one because we don't really make anything different on Christmas, other than the cookies.   I guess it's the blend of everything together.  We do a ham, stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, etc.  I love having a big meal filled with comfort foods and then eating the leftovers in the days after Christmas.

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Hands down, by FAR, my favorite Christmas movie is Christmas Vacation.  I love comedy but I love the message.  Christmas isn't about how big your light display is or how perfect the dinner is, it's about giving and family.  My favorite scene is when Clark "wigs out" and then gets a chains saw and cuts down a "coffin" er...tree.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

White Christmas is my favorite.  I love the crooners like Bing Crosby and Dean Martin and this song is the title song to my SECOND favorite Christmas movie, "White Christmas".   I guess I'm a bit of an old soul.

What was your favorite gift you ever received?

My favorite gifts are the ones made by my kids.  I love when they make presents for me at school.  They get so excited to give them to me that I have to open them the SECOND they bring them home.  This year my littlest one made me a paperweight with a smiling picture of her in the middle of it.  It's one of my favorite things.

What is your favorite Christmas memory?

My best memories are of spending the holidays with my grandparents at their home in New York.  It ALWAYS snowed on Christmas and after all the gifts were open, I'd go outside and play in the snow for HOURS!  My grandparents always decorated everything...I guess that's where I got it from.  Then we'd all sit down to an amazing dinner of duck, ham and all the trimmings.  In the evening I'd sit on my Papa's lap and we'd eat butter pecan ice cream and drink Black Cherry soda.  I literally have tears in my eyes writing this, I miss them so much!

Does it snow where you live?

It COULD snow if it ever gets cold enough but it doesn't happen too often.  When it DOES snow it's only a little dusting and usually melts pretty quick.

Do you own an "ugly holiday sweater"?

Negative, though I used to.  I bought one from QVC and it had sparkles and all kinds of things going on.  I thought it was cool for the longest time until one of my close friends at work said, "please never wear that again...on purpose."

Hot chocolate or eggnog?

Hot chocolate because I'm lactose intolerant and the thought of drinking raw eggs makes me ill.

Have you ever been kissed under a mistletoe?

Many times by my wonderful hubby.

So that's it for the Christmas Tag....I love the idea and I hope you learned a little about me.  I tag ANYONE else who wants to participate!  Please leave a link in the comments below if you do because I'd love to read what you post.  Have a Merry Christmas and blessings to you and your families!
